Wall and Christoval are the two small communities people buy in when they want acreage, a small school district, and a drive to town they can live with. Wall sits on U.S. 87 about 10 miles southeast of San Angelo in the Lipan Flat farm country. Christoval is on U.S. 277 about 20 miles south, on the South Concho River. Wall
Wall has been the trading center for the Lipan Flat, where cotton and grain are grown, since its first settlers arrived in 1886. The post office opened in 1906, named for J. M. Wall, a merchant who became the first postmaster. The community counted about 200 residents from 1980 through 2000 and 329 in 2009, with several businesses and the school.
By road it is about 13 miles from Wall to downtown San Angelo and about 8 miles to Goodfellow Air Force Base, which puts the base closer than downtown for many Wall addresses.

Christoval
Christoval sits on Loop 110, U.S. 277, and FM 2084 where they meet the South Concho River, about 20 miles south of San Angelo. The post office dates to 1889. The river is the town's whole history: its mineral waters drew visitors and settlers, and a summer encampment on the South Concho pulled about 10,000 people a year in the 1920s and 1930s. The 2020 census counted 482 residents.
By road it is about 20 miles from Christoval to downtown San Angelo and about 19 miles to Goodfellow.

The housing
There is no subdivision to describe in either place. What comes to market is homes on acreage along the farm roads and highways, older farmhouses, and newer builds on tracts split off from larger parcels, and it comes up less often than city inventory does. Both are small, single-community districts, each running one campus for the whole town. The other outlying districts in the county are Grape Creek, Veribest, and Miles.

Things to know before you buy
- Septic is permitted by the county. Tom Green County enforces the state TCEQ rules for on-site sewage facilities under a local ordinance, and its Environmental Health office (325-658-1038) issues the permits. The county's stated goal is that the system is sized right for the soil it sits in. Get the septic inspected.
- Ask what the water source is. Homes outside the city limits are not on San Angelo utilities. Find out whether the house is on a well or a water supplier, and if it is a well, have it tested before closing.
- File the homestead exemption if the home is your primary residence (Form 50-114, generally due before May 1). The school district exemption is $140,000, and your taxable value then cannot rise more than 10 percent a year.
